Nice thanks for posting this here, really all we need is a cfw that has a backup manager, other os, and new theme features like freestyle dash has.I wanted to make this happen but no one wanted to help me so the community will have to want a long time before some one even releases a backup manager and we get all our old features back. The only reason ps3 was better than xbox was the other os feature and when i purchased my slim 320gb ps3 i was shocked that the other os feature was gone so i hope some one does make a cfw capable of running a backup manager maybe this cfw can im not sure well we just have to wait and see what happens i think sony deserves all of this. What they did by removing our freedom was fucked and im just glad there getting payback. What they did by removing our freedom was fucked and im just glad there getting payback. Ok I installed this geohot PS3UPDAT.PUP on my PS3 with software version 3.55 and that worked it gave me the file 'Install package file' under game. Now I am assuming to run backup manager. I need to power down the ps3(cut the power) insert the PS3break v1.2, connect the power, press the buttons power then eject real quickly and wait for the green light to appear on the ps3break v1.2, then insert my usb with manager.pkg and install it?So then I insert some games and I can make backups on to my EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE?Do I always leave the ps3break 1.2 in the console at all times?and Can I play games off my external hard drive?I did not use the ps3break, cause I did not receive it yet.one stupid question.what does CFW stand for?I am learning on the flyThanks. It is only a matter of time before someone adds peak/poke to the CFW.then it will probably be less than 24 hours before we see working backup managers, and then about 3 more days before sony releases another new firmware, and then the process will start all over, but much faster thanks to all the tools we now have at hand.GeoHot is too well known to add BM support himself.he has to stay super-clean to stay out of court. He knows people will add it later so long as he does all the heavy lifting for them. I even think all the downloaded files will still be there and you'd be able to play them. You just wouldn't have the install package option. Awesome! Also, People have gotten CASTLEVANIA backup to work!

It works on the jailbroken PS3's and the non-jailbroken!They also got 3D Dot Game Heroes to work!Go there and try it for yourself. You must first install the package, then transfer all the files into the proper location (from your backup of either of these games).I just did it and got 3d dot game workingYAY. We're getting closer and closer.
Which is safer: Using a jailbreak dongle or softmodding?Jailbreaking using a dongle involves the installation of an external unauthorized device, whereas a softmod is installing a software. Using 'jailbreak dongles' can be relatively easier and safer because they temporarily boot the PS3 in debug mode, which allows the installation of unauthorized software, colloquially called homebrew. The PS3 becomes normal when the dongle is taken out. A softmod is more difficult to do and holds greater risk than a jailbreak dongle because it installs CFW permanently.
This doesn't go without saying that even using jailbreak dongles is risky. How can I keep my console safe during a softmod?Softmodding can be risky. There are however ways to reduce chances of spoiling/bricking your PS3. First of all, you need to ensure that the custom firmware you are installing is valid. To do this, check if the MD5 Checksum of the custom firmware you have downloaded is correct i.e. It matches with the MD5 checksum given on the website from which you downloaded it.
Another way in which your PS3 can be bricked/rendered useless is a power cut during the installation of custom firmware. To keep your PS3 safe, you should plug it into a UPS during the installation process. List of custom firmwares for 3.55:. Kmeaw's custom firmware: This, according to the majority, is the best available custom firmware but to run backups, you need to run a LV2 patch each time before you start a backup manager.
Alternatively, you can install BDEMU and this is just a one time install. Waninkoko's v1 custom firmware: The installation of this custom firmware is highly risky as many people have reported that their PS3 was bricked with the infamous YLOD when they installed it.
Waninkoko's v2 custom firmware: This custom firmware resolved the issues which the first one presented. This is an excellent custom firmware and runs game without the need of any patch. However, most games which require higher firmwares(3.56, 3.60) do not work. Some games requiring 3.56 have been patched and run after the patch has been applied. Geohot's 3.55 jailbreak: This is where it all started, Geohot's jailbreak for PS3s on 3.55.
This is not very useful now, as it cannot run backups and requires homebrews to be patched for them to run on it. Most, if not all custom firmwares can run hombrews without patching. Wutangrza's CFW: Wutangrza's CFW for 3.55. It includes a payload, like Waninkoko's CFW, but needs signed pkg files like Geohot's jailbreak.

Rogero Manager: This backup manager is based off Open Manager. Iris Manager: This is an open-source backup manager and is based off Hermes Manager.

FTP: Games can be transferred to the internal harddisk of the PS3 through an FTP server running on the computer. You need to run an FTP client on your computer and an FTP homebrew app(like Blackbox) on your PS3 and then you can transfer games. The game's folder needs to be transferred to /devhdd0/GAMEZ. Using an NTFS external harddrive: Only MultiMAN supports NTFS harddrives. You need to first enable NTFS on multiMAN.
The softmod sticky contains instructions on how to do so. Then, you need to copy it to your harddrive and copy it to /devhdd0/GAMEZ using the file manager function of MultiMAN. Using a FAT32 formatted pendrive/external hdd: You can also copy games using a FAT32 formatted pendrive/external hdd. Most games need to be split into two parts because the FAT32 format doesn't allow a single file over 4GB to be copied to it.
Some games which do not have a single file over 4GB can be copied without the need to split them. Is one of the most commonly used splitters. GLOSSARY. You could probably link to the wiki page with all the homebrew/Dunno. It may go against the rules.I don't think linking to more informations is against the rule. It's not like your guide is empty or only a homebrew list, it's a 'first hacking step guide' which provides links to things users can do after jailbreaking.Well, that's how I see it.
But I'm not a judge for this competitionEven if we are against each other in this competition, I'm helping you to make a tutorial that users can understand, follow, and being the most complete as possible. The guide will stay available after the competition and must benefits the users, keep the user's needs in mind when writing a guide. (I'm saying that for everyone writing one, don't write for yourself only).Zorua, You could add that HManager is for Hermes cfw3.41 only. And on your 'how to transfer a game' section, maybe you could link to my guide (when it will be posted, or after the competition if you want).
I will cover multiMAN only, but the users should find enough informations to understand how other managers are working by reading the MM tutorial.QUOTE(Vigilante @ May 4 2011, 08:48 AM). Click to expand.Hey, he's notI'm making a Total noob's guide for multiMAN.It will cover. Hopefully all multiMAN functionalities xxI'm not sure I will complete it before the end of the contest. But I'll post it when it will have at least the main functions covered. There's too many users asking the same question over and over regarding the use of games manager.
I hope it will be helpful.Though, I fear the guide will be too long for a noob to read it, they want everything quicklyIt will be separated by chapter, so users just have to read the part they need.Though, maybe there will be less than 5 submitted guides here? That too bad for this section.
